Deputy London Mayor Stephen Greenhalgh is encouraging teachers to be more 'vigilant' to the "dangers of extremist infiltration of London schools". We need to be more sensitive to the radicalisation of students aged 10 or younger, exposed to radical Islamist propaganda, he says.
Here are my suggestions for Mr Greenlagh.
1. Make all state-funded schools secular now.
2. Stop funding religious Free Schools.
3. Inspect independent schools regularly, specifically their RE curriculum.
4. Remove staff pending inquiry when the whistle is blown on the promotion of any religion or religious agenda.
The root problem of radicalisation in schools can be properly identified when the mess of allowing religious agendas to permeate education is cleaned up.
The promotion of any religious or spiritual view (including athiesm) in school is an affront to intellectual and civil liberty. It is time to put an end to it altogether.
In one fell swoop, Mr Greenlagh could make state schools secular. Fanaticism would be much easier to spot and stop.
